Benjamin Chinn owned a large house called Hazel Plain about five miles north of Manassas. It was part of a 550 acre estate west of the Sudley Road and south of the Turnpike, on a ridge that would bear the family name.

The house fell into disrepair over the years and by the 1930’s was propped up by long pieces of timber. It was demolished for safety reasons, and today is survied only by its stone foundation. The foundation is next to the parking area at Stop 10 on the Manassas Battlefield Driving Tour.
