The Monument to the Unknown and Unrecorded Dead stands at the center of the Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, part of in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia. (see map below)

Erected A.D. 1879, by the people of the South
To the 829 unknown Confederate Dead
who lie beneath this mound
in grateful rememberance of their Heroic Virtues
And that their example of unstinted devotion
to Duty and Country may never be forgotten

From the left side of the monument:
Who they were, none know;
What they are, all know.

From the rear of the monument:
On fame’s eternal camping ground
Their silent tents are spread;
While glory guards with solemn round
This bivouac of the dead.

Location
The Monument to the Unknown and Unrecorded Dead is in Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, part of Mount Hebron Cemetery on the east side of Winchester, Virginia. (39°10’57.7″N 78°09’25.8″W) The main cemetery entrance is from Boscawen Avenue at East Lane. Winchester National Cemetery is just across the street to the north.
