Winchester > Stonewall Confederate Cemetery

The monument in Stonewall Confederate Cemetery is on the grave of the brothers Turner and Richard Ashby. Turner Ashby, the “Dark Knight of the Confederacy,” was “Stonewall” Jackson’s Cavalry commander until his death in 1862 at the Battle of Harrisonburg, where there is a monument to him. Turner is buried with his brother Richard, who was killed in a skirmish at Harpers Ferry in 1861.
