Two small markers along the old Richmond-Lynchburg stage road commemorate the last skirmishing by North Carolina troops and the last Federal battery captured in the Civil War.

From the first marker:

North Carolina

The last Federal battery taken by the
Confederates was captured by the
North Carolina cavalry brigade
of Brig. Gen. W.P. Roberts at
this place.

From the second marker:

North Carolina

At this place was fought the last skirmish
by Captain Wilson T. Jenkins of the 14th
North Carolina Regiment commanding 25
men of the 4th and 14th N.C. Regiments.
