The 8th Georgia Infantry trailside marker is on the Matthews Hill Loop Trail which begins at Stop 4 on the Manassas Battlefield Driving Tour. The marker is next to the monument to George T. Stovall.

“Away we went straight into the teeth of the murderous fire. We entered a thicket and were within 100 yards of the enemy. Yet, not a gun of ours was fired until the command ‘commence firing’ was given. Most of the men were cool as cucumbers – each would load, pick his man, and take deliberate aim. We stood the fire in that wood for 30 minutes, and had the order not been given to retire, not one man would have left his post.”

The marker is along the Matthews Hill Loop Trail, which starts at the Matthews Hill parking area on the east side of Sudley Road, Virginia Route 234, about 0.7 mile north of US 29. It is on the part of the trail that runs into the woods along the east side of the field, about 570 yards from the parking area. (38°49’38.2″N 77°31’47.3″W)
