Chancellorsville Tour Stop 1 markerBehind the Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center and just feet away from the monument to Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson lies an unknown soldier of the United States Army.

The remains were found in 1935 by Civilian Conservation Corps workers a short distance away alongside the Plank Road near Hazel Grove and were reinterred here next to the ranger station in the newly established park.
