Harrisonburg


The monument to Confederate Brigadier General Turner Ashby marks the spot on Chestnut Ridge south of  Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he was killed on June 6, 1862. (38°25’23.2″N 78°51’53.2″W; map) It was dedicated on June 6, 1898 by the Turner Ashby Chapter 162, United Daughters of the Confederacy, who continue to maintain the site.

The monument is close by the Battle of Harrisonburg historical marker and the Chestnut Ridge wayside marker, which describe the fight in which General Ashby was killed.
