The monument to the Battle of Fisher’s Hill is about 2 miles south of Strasburg on the north side of the southbound lanes of the Valley Pike (U.S. 11), shortly before the highway transitions from a divided highway to two lanes. The monument was erected in 1929. It is one of a series of 59 commemorating Virginia Civil War battlefields created during the 1920’s by the Battlefield Markers Association. They were the first highway markers in the State of Virginia.

The Battle of Fisher’s Hill

Was fought on these bluffs
– September 22, 1864 –
Gen. Philip H. Sheridan’s 60,000 Federals
attacked Gen. Jubal A. Early’s 18,000
Confederates. Through the advantage of
overwhelming numbers, the Federals
won the victory.
