The Shenandoah Valley is a beautiful region of wooded mountains, rich farmland and flowing streams. But during the Civil War it was a pathway for armies, a battleground, and a strategic target. The struggle for mastery of the Valley led to countless skirmishes and battles – Winchester changed hands over seventy times – and finally to the scorched earth of The Burning.
