Battle of Chancellorsville • Tour the Battlefield • Monuments & Markers • The Armies
The Jackson’s Flank March Trail is not part of the Chancellorsville Battlefield Auto Tour. It leaves the Auto Tour at Stop 6, Catharine Furnace ruins, and follows the route of Jackson’s flank march that led to his attack on the Union Eleventh Corps.
The road is maintained as a gravel road to preserve some of the feel of the original route, although it has been graded and widened for two lane traffic. Depending on the season and the weather it may have potholes, and at one point it fords a small stream.
National Park Service historical markers from the 1950s tell the story of the march, and some newer wayside markers have been added. While traffic is two way, following it from east to west was how Jackson’s men marched it and the story told by the markers makes more sense.
