The Sunken Road is Stop One on the Fredericksburg Battlefield Auto Tour. Stop One includes the National Park Visitor Center, whose museum displays and video provide background information on the battle. It is also the starting point for the walking tours of the Sunken Road, Marye’s Heights and the National Cemetery.

Stop One on the Fredericksburg Battlefield Auto Tour is the Visitor Center at the National Cemetery. It is on the north side of Lafayette Boulevard (US Business Route 1) about 0.4 mile east of the Blue and Grey Parkway (Virginia Route 3). (38°17’37.2″N 77°28’02.4″W)
Directions to the next stop on the Auto Tour:
To reach Stop Two, turn left leaving the parking lot and follow Lafayette Boulevard down to the where it ends at the river. Turn left on Sophia Street until reaching William Street. Turn right on William Street across the Rappahannock Bridge, then follow the signs to Chatham.
