First Battle of KernstownSecond Battle of Kernstown

The Pritchard Family farm outside of Kernstown occupied a strategic location, including a dominating hill, on the southern approaches to Winchester. The farm became a battlefield in both 1862 and 1864, as well as a an encampment, headquarters and hospital at various times during the war.

Today the farm is owned and operated by the Kernstown Battlefield Association, who maintain a visitor center, interpretive trails, the original 1857 house and restored outbuildings on 315 acres, which continues to operate as a working farm.
