This page lists the Order of Battle of the Confederate and Union armies at Chantilly (Ox Hill), with links to unit histories.
The Battle of Chantilly saw four divisions of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia face three divisions of Union Major General John Pope’s Army of Virginia.
The Union divisions actually belonged to Major General George McClellan’s Army of the Potomac. They had returned from the failed Peninsula Campaign and, to McClellan’s dismay, had been detached to Pope’s army. Too late to become involved in the disaster at Second Bull Run (Second Manassas) they were sent out to cover the retreat of Pope’s army.
