Battle of Hanover


The Gettysburg Campaign Pennsylvania historical marker is in Hanover, Pennsylvania on Frederick Street. (See map below) It was erected in 1947. The marker is within a short distance of the “Confederates Invade Pennsylvania” wayside marker.

Text from the marker:

Gettysburg Campaign

On June 30, 1863,
General J. Kilpatrick’s Union Cavalry,
hunting Gen. J.E.B. Stuart’s
cavalry, were attacked here
by Stuart. Repulsed, Stuart
tried to join early; finding
him gone, he marched to
Carlisle, failing to reach
Gettysburg until July 2.

The marker is on the southeast side of Frederick Street about 2/3 mile southwest of the Center Square in Hanover, Pennsylvania, in between Stuart and Westminster Avenues. (39°47’35.8″N 76°59’29.2″W)
