The Confederates retired to the trenches along White Oak Road in the face of Griffin’s and Miles’ attack. Ayers’ and Crawford’s reformed divisions moved up behind Griffin. As the torrential rains continued the Confederates settled into their defenses. Warren declined to attack them with his wet and exhasted men, and the fighting died down.
