The Wisconsin Company US Sharpshooters marker, also known as the Cedar Pole marker, is on the Deep Cut loop trail at Stop 7 of the Manassas Battlefield Driving Tour. The sign is a replica of the original, which was placed on the battlefield by George E. Albee sometime between 1878 and 1918. The original is in the park’s museum collection. Albee was wounded as a member of the Wisconsin Sharpshooters at Second Manassas but would recover, be commissioned an officer in the postwar army, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for a fight in 1869 in the Indian wars. More information is available on the “On the Skirmish Line” wayside marker, which is on the lower left in the photo facing away from the camera.
