The Monocacy National Battlefield Visitor Center is on the east side of Urbana Road at the north entrance to the battlefield. The Visitor Center features maps and displays on the battle and an overlook of the battlefield. (plus restrooms!) Two wayside markers in the Visitor Center parking area, the Lost Order and the 1862 Antietam Campaign, talk about Civil War events from 1862 campaign which occurred here rather than the 1864 Battle of Monocacy, showing how Civil War armies often returned again and again to strategic locations.

The Visitor Center is south of Frederick, Maryland on the east side of Urbana Road (Maryland Route 355) about 1.7 miles south of the Interstate 70 interchange. (39°22’37.9″N 77°23’43.6″W)
