The monument to The Southern Soldiers is on the west side of Urbana Pike (State Route 355) 100 yards south of the entrance to the Monocacy Visitor Center. (see map below) Dedicated on the fiftieth anniversary of the battle, the twelve foot high monument of Maryland granite is the only one on the battlefield dedicated to Confederate soldiers. Colonel Robert E. Lee, Jr., grandson of the Confederate general, was the keynote speaker to over 1,000 spectators.
