Stop Three of the Cedar Creek battlefield auto tour is on the northwest side of the Valley Pike (U.S. 11) south of Middletown, Virginia. (see map below) It features the monument to the 128th New York Infantry Regiment, one of only four monuments on the battlefield, and two wayside markers.
Stop three includes the 128th New York monument along with two wayside markes and a trailhead.

The 19th Corps Entrenchment Trail
Stop Three is also the trailhead for the 19th Corps Entrenchment Trail. The self-guided mile long trail follows the well-preserved entrenchments of the Union 19th Corps, which faced south toward Cedar Creek. The Confederate surprise attack struck from the eastern flank as well as the south. The Union defenders had to improvise a quick defensive line to the east while still holding the southern trenches. Stop Three became the hinge on the V-shaped line.
