Long Meadow Farm on the Cedar Creek battlefield.
The first building here was a log cabin built in 1737 by Jost Hite and his son Isaac. It was replaced in the 1840s by the brick house you see today.
Confederate Major General John B. Gordon used Bowman’s Ford to move his division across the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, then marched past Long Meadow Farm about a mile up Long Meadow Road before forming line of battle to attack the flank of Thoburn’s Union division.
From this point the driving tour follows Gordon’s attack route back to the Valley Pike.
