The “Battle of Cedar Creek” historical marker A15 is in front of Laurel Ridge Community College on the Valley Pike.

The Confederate line stretched across U.S. Route 11, along Miller Lane (Cougill Road) and past the Miller House in the distance. At 4:00 p.m. the Union counterattack swept southwest across the fields (starting from north to south) and struck the Confederate line here. After fierce resistance, the Confederate line collapsed from northwest to southeast, setting off a full-scale retreat. By nightfall Early’s army had disintegrated and was in headlong flight toward Fisher’s Hill.

Location of the marker

The marker is on the south side of the Valley Pike, (US 11) on the northeast side of Middletown, Virginia. It’s about 180 feet southwest from the Laurel Ridge Community College sign. (39°02’10.1″N 78°16’10.7″W)
