Confederate Countermine
Suspecting a Union mine, the Confederates dug two listening galleries here. They narrowly missed striking the Union tunnel, which was deeper. The depressions you see were caused by the cave-in of one of these galleries.

Location of the marker
The marker is on the Crater loop trail on the north side of the Crater. (37°13’07.1″N 77°22’39.7″W)
